Butterfly Frame

Thanks to all of those for the inspiration you sent my way on what to do with the butterflies! After seeing many pictures of the amazing things people have done with paper crafts, I decided to try and follow.  I picked up a frame at the thrift store the other day for a quarter and used that as my outline.

I glued some thread down to use as my 'wire.' Then I cut some scrapbook paper down to fit the back of my frame. After that dried, I carefully placed each butterfly down on the the wire with some more glue. It took some altering a bit to get my butterflies to stay down flat (and the help of a bead).

My butterflies have two components. One is a 'background' which is the flat cutout that lays on the thread. the other is the action one, the part that makes it 3D. I just glued the body of the butterfly (the middle fold) to the background paper and bent the wings up.

This may have been a tedious project, but it is really pretty and incredibly cheap. Just use whatever magazines or scrap paper you have around the house. Add some string, glue, and a frame and you are set!

Thanks for stopping by!

  16. I love how the butterflies seem almost 3-D. Did you use a stencil to cut them out? I am thinking about doing a butterfly baby shower and I think this could turn into a great take home gift. Thank you for sharing!!

  17. @Candace
I actually used a Martha Stewart craft punch I got at Michael's. They are around $10, but I used a 40% off coupon to get it. They have so many other design stamps too!
